The Washington Post launches On Giving
Today The Washington Post launches “On Giving,” a new section devoted to coverage of corporate giving and social responsibility, social entrepreneurship, charitable actions and personal finance. The section features original Washington Post reporting and guest contributions from philanthropists, global development leaders, social entrepreneurs, academics and researchers.
“Philanthropy is an important part of Washington and businesses around the country and the world. The Post has a lot of great coverage in this area, and we wanted to create one comprehensive place for readers to discover and engage with it,” said Raju Narisetti, Managing Editor, The Washington Post.
With today’s launch, the section features:
· "Social entrepreneurship and the Next Generation of Giving" —interviews with Kiva.org’s Premal Shah and Ashoka’s Bill Drayton who provide the fundamentals of social entrepreneurship and how it stands to become the pathway for individuals to give not only money, but respect even as the economy continues to contract.
· "Global development and the role of innovation" - PSI’s Vice President of Corporate Marketing and Communications, Kate Roberts, answered five questions about the latest developments in global development, the role social entrepreneurship stands to play and the power of going it alone when it comes to instituting fundamental change.
· "Restoring workers rights is not about blame; it’s about innovation" — With the holiday season approaching and buyers trying to make their hard-earned dollars go further, Verité CEO Dan Viederman answered five questions about the problems facing the modern, global workforce and the innovations currently in use and in development that stand to solve the long-standing challenge of creating a fair and equitable workplace for all.
Coming soon, On Giving will feature The Post’s Charitable Giving Guide. It will also have polls, user-generated photos, videos and social media tools, content from Slate, The Root and Foreign Policy and information about The Washington Post Charities and McCormick Foundation Fund.
On Giving becomes the newest addition to The Post’s popular On Topics channels, which include On Leadership, On Faith, on Innovation and On Small Business.
